Perak Pakatan paid 20,000 coins to object phantom voter as sign of protest against EC’s failure to provide political parties with the 2017 Q1 voters registration supplementary roll softcopy

Perak Pakatan harapan today brought 20 bags of 20,000 coins to object the phantom voters found in the 2017 Q1 supplementary electoral roll as a sign of protest against EC’s failure to provide political parties with the supplementary electoral roll softcopy.

DAP Perak chairman Nga Kor Ming said during the press conference that when Perak Pakatan Harapan was informed that the EC refused to provide political parties with the electoral roll softcopy, Perak Pakatan Harapan was forced to carry a photostate machine to the EC office in order to photostate the electoral roll.

“We even have to bring our own generator as the EC also refused to provide us with electricity. Our members work day and night to photostate yet we couldn’t finish photostating the complete electoral roll.” He lamented.

He lambasted the EC’s action as unreasonable & in bad faith. He questioned if this is a ploy from the EC to “protect” certain BN component parties act of transferring and registering phantom voters.

Nga said that based on the Election Act, Pakatan workers need to object all phantom voters within the 14 days in which the supplementary electoral roll is displayed. EC’s refusal to provide political parties with the electoral roll softcopy has made the work to identify and object phantom voters harder and very tedious.

Despite against all odds, in a press conference yesterday Perak Pakatan Harapan managed to identify a few hundreds of voters who have been shifted into DUN Hutan Melintang. Today DAP Perak has identify another 142 phantom voters, 99 from DUN Kamunting, 25 from DUN Pokok Assam and 18 from DUN Keranji.

Nga said he believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg and the actual situation of phantom voters is much worse than those had been discovered.

DAP Perak has also brought 20 bags of 20,000 coins worth RM1,420 to pay the fees to object the phantom voters as a sign of protest against EC failure to provide political parties with the electoral roll softcopy. Two DAP members also dress up in ghost costume as a sign of protest against dirty political tactics to the hijack the nation’s democracy.

Nga noted that both DUN Kamunting and Parliament Kampar are marginal seats with majority of less than 5% in the last GE. He accused BN of transferring voters systematically to these 2 seats in order to win these two seats with phantom voters in the next GE.

Nga said the illegal and systematic transfer of voters is against the Election Act 1958 and also a criminal offence under the penal code. DAP will lodge a police report later regarding the mass transfer of voters. Nga also asked Perak MB Zambry to come clean & explained the phantom voters as most of the phantom voters were also found to be MCA and UMNO members.

DAP Perak has formed a DAP ghostbusters team in March and have caught more than 250 phantom voters in less than 2 months. This proved that the phantom voters issues are very serious in Perak State.

Nga also urged Perakians to go to the nearest local council or post office to examine the latest supplementary electoral roll. If their address is found to be registered by unknown person, they can contact the nearest DAP local representative office to assis them to object the phantom voters and to lodge police report.
